Question from AnDon Timer (17:25, 30 May 2024)[edit]

I’m a music artist and i want to upload my bio to Google --AnDon Timer (talk) 17:25, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AnDon Timer: Wikipedia is not a soapbox for your promotion. Wikipedia is also not Google. Please do not attempt to use this site to promote yourself. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 17:34, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But people add their net worth using Wikipedia, i just want to upload a bio and about myself AnDon Timer (talk) 18:11, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

People do not add their net worth using Wikipedia. Wikipedia has reliably sourced artices on notable individuals that can come up in Google searches. There is no function through Wikipedia to get Google to show your net worth and this is not what Wikipedia is for. If this is all you are hoping for then please look elsewhere. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:14, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But you mean i can write an article about myself or another person using Wikipedia? AnDon Timer (talk) 18:19, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you are looking to write an article on Wikipedia, see this page which takes you through writing your first article. Please be aware that all Wikipedia articles should be neutral, and you obviously have a conflict of interest if you write about yourself. Wikipedia strongly discourages anyone from attempting to write an autobiography. As I mentioned before, Wikipedia does not exist for you to promote yourself or your brand. Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:23, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from McCal Media (18:38, 30 May 2024)[edit]

What are some key insights to know or learn when first editing and working on articles? --McCal Media (talk) 18:38, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@McCal Media: Before we go any further I have to request that you change your username. It currently only contains the name of what I assume is a company which is not allowed per the Wikipedia username policy. Please request a username change here; for people related to businesses the most common format to do this in is "[Your name] at McCal Media" or similar. You must also disclose your conflict of interest on your userpage and if you are being paid for your contributions here.
That said, the main points I think are useful to know are that every addition on Wikipedia needs to be several things:
  • Verifiable; this means that you provide a citation for any information you add that says where you got it from
  • Reliably sourced; any sources you do use for citations must be reliable (e.g. published, independent material)
  • Notable; the topic of every Wikipedia article needs to be notable for that article to not be deleted; this means it passes the general notability guidelines
There's a lot more that could be talked about. Your best placed to go when getting started is here. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Peri Otherly (03:32, 31 May 2024)[edit]

Hello Wiki Mentor: regarding my recent [TH May 30, 2024] minor edit of the WIKI bio of Oney Judge, i.e., from 'slave' to 'an enslaved woman', should I edit all subsequent references thoughout the article from 'slave' to 'enslaved person/s'? THX Peri --Peri Otherly (talk) 03:32, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Peri Otherly: You certainly could for the sake of consistency. If you're worried about doing it you could ask this question on the article talk page, where I see another user has also mentioned the use of "enslaved". Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 12:28, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Shashankkala (13:17, 1 June 2024)[edit]

My articles get declined with the reason that i did not cite the relevant or correct sources(even though i added many). even when i have seen many other articles (stubs) which are alive with no citations or sources at all. How? --Shashankkala (talk) 13:17, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Shashankkala: Each Wikipedia article is judged independently for its worth. You are correct that there are poor articles in main space, but this does not mean other equally poor articles should be accepted. In the case of Draft:Shashank Kala I am not seeing sources that really assist with WP:GNG, such as sustained, reliable coverage of the individual. The citations provided are minor. Considering that there are zero results when searching the name in Google News I think it unlikely that you will be able to demonstrate the notability required for the article to be accepted. I also note that from your username you are attempting to write an autobiography, which is strongly discouraged as you have an unavoidable conflict of interest.
