According to tradition, the restaurant has a history of more than 800 years,[2] and appears in the kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbon-zakura.[1] Its notable patrons include the novelists Yoshikawa Eiji[3] and Tanizaki Jun'ichirō,[3] and singers such as Misora Hibari,[3] Fujishima Takeo ,[3] and Dick Mine.[3]
The business's current owner is Yasuke Takuda (宅田弥助),[4] the 49th-generation owner.[4]
