Shachihoko
In Japanese mythology, a shachihoko (鯱), is an animal with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp.
The kanji 鯱 has two kun-yomi, meaning that as a stand-alone word it can be pronounced two ways. When pronounced "sha-chi-ho-ko", it refers to the mystical animal mentioned above. When pronounced "sha-chi", it means grampus. This is a source of confusion, even among the Japanese.
Its image is widely believed to be based on Makara of Hindu mythology.
