Academic career

Herbst completed qualifications at the University of Cape Town.

Herbst Architects' Kawakawa House won the New Zealand Institute of Architects' Sir Ian Athfield Award in 2018.[1] They won the same award in 2023 for their Omata Beach House.[2]
