The Demonstrations of 15 September were protest actions against the troika and the austerity measures imposed by the Government, which took place on 15 September 2012, from north to south of Portugal. The initiative was launched on social networks by a group of 30 citizens, having as main objective to bring to the street the indignation of the Portuguese people. [‎‎1‎‎]‎

The moments of greatest tension with the police were in Lisbon, next to the IMF delegation and in front of the steps of the Assembly of the Republic (where, according to the organization, 500,000 demonstrators were present) and in Aveiro. [2]

These protests will have been the largest demonstrations since May 1st in 1974.
