Fidelis Duker
Fidelis Duker (born in Lagos Nigeria) is a Filmmaker, film festival organiser, a major player in the Nigerian broadcast industry. Duker is the founder of the annual Abuja International Film Festival and founder of FAD Media Group owners of FAD FM 93.1 Calabar and FAD 360TV respectively.
Personal life
Born in Lagos of Nigeria to Cross River father (Henshaw Town in Calabar South) and Edo Mother, he had his early education in the Yaba area of Lagos as he attended St Dominic Primary School Yaba Lagos and proceeded to the Federal Government College Kano. [1]
After his Secondary education, he attended the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Journalism, The Television College in Jos Plateau State, then obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. He also got a Professional Diploma in Public Relations from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He also has an MBA in International Business from Crawford University Ogun State. He also has a Master Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Cross River.
He is married to Temitope Duker and has three children by her; Fidelia, Frances, and Frederick.
Career
Duker started his career in the year 1988 writing dramas for NTA, Nigeria’s public broadcast television network. He used to write scripts for Tales by Moonlight, a popular television programme for kids in Nigeria. Duker also wrote for Television programmes like ‘Tales by MoonLight; At Your Service, Telemovies, Super Express Show. He further continued working as production manager on sets of most television series between 1989 and 1992 before starting his production with his first ill-fated film in 1992 titled Devils Empire which was not released commercially. However, it was in 1993 that he made his debut as a producer with the Igbo film ‘Skeleton, which was the debut of some of Nollywood greats, a film he produced in Igbo, a language of southeastern Nigerians. ‘Skeleton’ featured the likes of Hank Anuku, Sunny McDon, the late Felicia Milford, Francis Duru, Ngozi Nwosu, and late Sam Loco. Duker was privileged to have been sponsored to attend some International Conferences on Film and television. In 2001 he was sponsored by the BBC to participate in the BBC TV25 training for young Television producers.
In 2005, He was sponsored by the German Government to attend the Training on Festival organisations at the Deutsche Welle Training Akademie in Berlin Germany. For over three decades, Duker has produced over 100 films and Television programmes both locally and internationally.
In 2003, Duker birthed the idea of the Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF),[2] one of Africa’s biggest and longest-running film festivals held yearly in Abuja of Nigeria, for which he sits on the board as the Founder of the event holding for its 18th time in 2021. [3]
Duker is the group CEO of FAD media Group, a consortium comprising FAD 93.1 FM Calabar, FAD Films Nigeria, FAD Estates, and FAD 360 TV in Abuja, Calabar, and Lagos. The media group was founded in 2005. [4]
Nominations and awards
In 2016, Duker won a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award,’[5] at the Best of Nollywood Award (BON) held in Aba.[6] Duker’s radio station FAD93.1FM in 2021 won ‘Next Rated Radio Station in Nigeria’ at the Media-Nite Out Awards. [4]
