On 17 May 2024, a group of Spanish tourists was attacked by a group of terrorists at a market in Bamiyan Province in central Afghanistan, according to government and security sources.[1]

Taliban-led Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Matin Qane has reported that 3 Spanish and 3 Afghans, have died. Among the other victims were four injured foreigners, including one Lithuanian, one Norwegian, one Australian and one Spanish.[2][3]

Reactions

Abdul Mateen Qani shared the details on his official account on the social media platform X (Twitter).

He said Taliban security forces' efforts to apprehend the perpetrators led to the arrests of four suspects linked to the assault, possibly Islamic State affiliated.[4]
